Report: Big Update on Sammy Watkins Injured Foot

This past May when it was announced that Buffalo Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins’ needed to undergo foot surgery most thought it to be a temporary issue. He was able to finish the 2015 season on an extremely high note so how bad could it be, right?

Then we learned that 2014’s 4th overall draft pick would be forced to miss most of  training camp and the preseason. That was definitely concerning news but when Watkins began to participate in the summer sessions, things were looking to be trending in the right direction. Fast forward to September 30th and the latest update on Sammy’s injured foot is not good.

Reporting from One Bills Drive today, Joe Buscaglia released a video you can watch here in which he gave a brief rundown of what Rex Ryan just said about his #1 receiver. Not only did the Bills head coach absolutely rule Sammy out for this weekends matchup against the New England Patriots, he also stated there is some concern that his foot injury could be a long-term issue.

Now Joe B made it clear that Rex never said he is “scared” Watkins’ foot injury is long-term per se, but using the word “concerned” is almost the same thing. Sammy was stepped on in practice last week which apparently re-aggravated the injury, but no word yet if that is reason for the recent concern.

We will look for more updates as they come and in all reality this could just be a false alarm. Either way, if you’re a Bills fan, it’s not good news for the immediate or the future. Let’s hope Sammy Watkins injured foot fully heals and he can make it back on the field with his teammates this season!
